ABOUT YORK PRODUCTS

Did you know that the original York manufacturing company got its start making ice machines in 1874? The company soon switched to selling early air-conditioning systems and, by the time it was acquired by Johnson Controls in 2005, was the world’s largest independent manufacturer of air conditioning, heating, refrigeration equipment.

In 1924, it was York equipment that created the world’s first air conditioned office building. Today, the company’s products are heating and cooling famous structures, such as the Empire State Building, the English Chunnel, U.S. Capitol Building and the Sydney Opera House. And, of course, millions of homes and businesses across the country!

If you’re looking for a new air conditioner for your home or business, or simply want to make sure the one you have is in tip-top condition and ready for summer, one of Advanced Comfort Specialists’ knowledgeable, factory-trained technicians can help.

In addition to York equipment, we install, service and repair the products of Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Tempstar, Amana, Bryant and many other brands, and will work with you to find a system that fits your budget and meets your needs.

ENERGY SAVING MYTHS

Summer is coming and, regardless which brand of air conditioner you have, you’re most likely looking for ways to save energy and reduce your utility bills. You’ll find plenty of so-called tips online, but many of them can do more harm than good. Here are four of our favorite energy saving myths:

  1. Turn the air conditioner off when you’re not home. This is not a good idea because, while you’re gone, the temperature in your home will get very warm and humid. When you turn the A/C back on, it will have to work doubly hard to make your home comfortable again. The amount of energy it takes to accomplish this will far exceed any energy you save by leaving it off all day. Instead, invest in a programmable thermostat that will allow you to change the temperature to a cooler setting before you get home so your home is cool and comfortable when you arrive.
  1. Lower the thermostat to cool faster. Thermostats are just temperature regulators; they tell your heating or cooling system when to turn on or off to keep the room at a certain temperature. Your home won’t cool any faster and will just waste energy. This can also cause some of the components to freeze up and malfunction.
  1. Close vents in rooms you’re not using. Your air conditioning system is balanced so that the volumes of air going in and out are equal. When you close some vents (or doors) and disrupt this balance, pressure can build up in the ducts and cause leaks. You’ll just be cooling the air inside the ducts, and your system will be less efficient. If there are areas of your home that you don’t want to cool, consider a zoned cooling system.
  1. Buying an energy efficient system will automatically save energy. A high efficiency air conditioner will help, but only if it’s sized correctly, installed properly and well-maintained. An air conditioning system that is too large for your home will cycle on and off repeatedly and increase your energy costs.
