SIGNS YOUR FURNACE MAY NEED REPAIR

How can you know when you may need to have your furnace repaired before the weather gets colder? Here are a few common warning signs to look for:

  • Clicking: If you hear clicking noises, it’s possible that an electronic ignition system is causing the problem. If you hear clicking sounds after the blower fan has shut down, the heat exchanger may be cracked. This could lead to carbon monoxide leaks, so it’s important to call the professionals at Advanced Comfort Specialists right away to check it out. If you hear other strange sounds, like groaning or banging, there may be a loose belt or another component that is about to fail.
  • Low airflow: If you are experiencing cold spots or constant drafts from sluggish airflow even though the furnace is generating heat, there may be an air handler problem or a leak in the ventilation system that needs to be repaired.
  • Short-cycling: When the furnace rapidly turns on and off and fails to complete a full heating cycle, it is “short-cycling.” This puts a lot of stress on the furnace and drains power, so these problems should be repaired quickly. It’s possible that there are clogged filters, a thermostat that isn’t properly calibrated, or that the furnace is not the proper size for your home.
  • Poor air quality: If you notice that family members are experiencing allergies, asthma or other breathing problems more frequently, it could be that your furnace is malfunctioning and circulating dust, mold, and other irritants through the air.
